As at today (30 December 2008), Sticky has 5 offspring.
One was hatched yesterday, another on 28 Dec, and yet another one on 25 (Christmas!). There are 3 older ones that were hatched earlier (after 28 November, but I cannot remember when exactly).
By this morning, the one (nicknamed Still Stuck) that was hatched yesterday died. My hubby said its legs were all stuck in the egg. This is the second or third time that a young life had been lost this way.
Another was hatched with curly legs. So it was unable to perch upside-down properly, falling down many times. It failed to thrive despite food provided. In the end, it died after a few days.
After Curly Legs, there was one hatched with a bent back. Bendy Back survived for about three weeks. It had difficulty moulting and fell onto a leaf and died!
Earlier, one had two legs stuck to the egg, so it had only four legs. It died shortly after hatching.
Now, we have one with five legs. Its last leg was stuck to the egg during hatching. Let us see how it goes.
Meanwhile, Sticky is still at large, missing since 28 November 2008. Its two eldest offspring, Stickling and Sticklet died respectively on the toilet floor (after escaping) and in its enclosure, presumably from lack of water when we went for a 2-day holiday.
The survivors measure between 2 cm to 3 cm. They do not fight but may get stuck to each other when they crawl pass each other!
